B.A. (Hons)
Senior Management Associate, Spearhead Training, Qatar
Sue is a Canadian national with over twenty five years experience within the Canadian public sector in areas such as programme delivery, project management, policy development and administrative and human resource management.
Sue is an Honours graduate from Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada. She began her career in 1974 working in a variety of Canadian government departments, focusing on assisting people to become more successful in their lives - ranging from people in trouble with the law, to the unemployed and newcomers to Canada. Several years of community development work followed. Her duties included working with agencies and schools to initiate, develop and evaluate proposals and projects aimed at making positive changes in the local labour market. During this time Sue delivered programme-specific training to partners, stakeholders, and staff. She enjoys working with teams, maintaining positive working relationships and assisting others in contributing to the best of their ability.
In 1998 Sue was promoted to the position of programme consultant within Human Resources Development Canada, an organization providing expert advice, guidance and training to staff and management on issues and programmes related to employment and public pensions. She also monitored and reported on the effectiveness of programme delivery.
In 2000, Sue earned promotion to the management level within Human Resources Development Canada and Service Canada, where she effectively, and professionally, managed the offices of senior level executives. One of her first assignments was to develop and implement a strategy to improve the quality and timeliness of a ministerial enquiry process, including the writing of briefing notes and reports.
During her years in management, Sue has focused on all aspects of Human Resource management and practices, especially recruitment and selection, and performance management. From 2002 to 2007 she worked in the Finance and Administrative Branch of Service Canada, Ontario Region, where she was the branch lead for the implementation of competency based performance management and agreements. This included the provision of training to line and senior managers and staff. She also accepted the role, as lead branch trainer for ‘Creating a Respectful Workplace’ workshops which were delivered to all employees in the Ontario Region. One of Sue’s most challenging duties on behalf of her branch was her involvement in a major initiative to transfer employment programmes and services between two levels of government. As branch project manager, she was instrumental in ensuring all branch deliverables were met on time.
She arrived in Qatar in April 2007, accompanying her husband who had accepted a position with a major retail / property management company. She joined the Spearhead team in November 2007. Sue believes her past experience in the delivery of specific training, and her practical ‘hands on’ experience as a manager, provides value added contributions to the quality of her training for Spearhead’s clients.
