Hans Horlings

B.Sc., MBA
Senior Management Associate, Spearhead Training, U.A.E.

Hans is a Dutch national, who began his career with Arthur Young International in the Netherlands, as a management consultant. In 1987 he left the Netherlands to settle in New Zealand and was initially involved as part of the management team at Heinz-Wattie Group. This was followed by leading the creation of an information technology solutions and consultancy company, of which he was the General Manager, for a period of six years. In 1995 Hans began his education and training career as a senior lecturer in the business and information systems department at the Manukau Institute of Technology. In this role he was also responsible for delivering customised training programmes to corporate customers. In 1999 Hans relocated with his family to the U.A.E. to take up a position as Senior Business Lecturer at the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT). Over the past 10 years Hans has trained many U.A.E. Nationals, in a wide range of business topics, including: general business management, H.R. management, finance, personal development, and soft skills training. Hans was also involved in the professional development of teachers at HCT. In 2007 Hans created Sail Arabia, an initiative which aims to integrate people with physical disabilities into society and develop young people in the G.C.C. into active, responsible citizens through organizing sailing adventures. This initiative required the development of contacts with many leading organizations, businesses, and government leaders.

Hans has been involved in the set-up of many new initiatives in the Netherlands, New Zealand, and the U.A.E. He has an ability to motivate people to develop and reach their full potential. He is passionate about sharing information and helping others improve their effectiveness, and is able to motivate and engage people in an inter-active learning process. Hans encourages people to embrace change and fully use its new opportunities. In all his career positions he has always encouraged and coached individuals to become high performing role models. Hans says: “the key to being a good trainer is facilitation; everyone has valuable opinions and each delegate has something to bring to the table. The key to training is sharing, working together to find the best outcome, and understanding the best way to implement it.” He enjoys working with people from diverse backgrounds, and thrives on helping people from different cultural backgrounds.

Hans believes in ‘continuous development’ and has completed an MBA and also postgraduate diplomas in Teaching, Educational Technology and Business Economics & Finance. He is committed to keeping up-to-date with new training methods and styles, and the latest corporate developments - especially those that may have impact in the training room. As an MBA graduate he believes that to get the most out of people, organizations must have clearly aligned goals, which are communicated and taken on board by everyone - from the person on the shop floor up to boardroom level. With over 15 years experience in the training and education field, and consultancy experience with a diverse range of international companies from around the world, Hans has a great amount of ‘hands on’ experience at all levels of management and corporate activity.
