Senior Management Associate, Spearhead Training, U.A.E.
Sally is a native of Australia, with an MBA (Masters of Business Administration) specialising in organizational behaviour, leadership and organizational change. Her first degree was a Bachelor’s degree in Leisure Studies, majoring in Sports Management, Community Arts and Therapeutic Recreation. She began her working career as a Recreation Officer in a hospital. From this experience and subsequent work in community and voluntary organizations, Sally gained valuable skills in teaching people the skills of daily living, and training others to acquire skills for employment. These roles also allowed her to develop strong communication skills with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds.
In 2000, Sally took up a post in the public service sector, where, amongst various project manager roles, she managed funding programmes to a value of approximately $A1m. She was responsible for training, supervising and supporting staff in the distribution and allocation of funding to various community and government organizations. While in a posting in the Australian outback, Sally initiated a staff development and supervision programme relevant to other officers who were also posted in remote locations. For this, she received considerable recognition from senior management, and was subsequently asked to lead other staff development projects, as well as implementing and promoting volunteer recognition and training programmes. She also planned, coordinated, and led, regional staff forums, which included staff training and supervision.
Sally has delivered and facilitated a variety of courses and workshops with community and government agencies. Topics she has trained in, include strategic and community development, management, planning, communications, and leadership.
In pursuit of a further challenge, Sally became a project officer with The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in Queensland (her home state in Australia). In this role she developed various training policies and procedures. She was then approached to lead the Award programme and take on the role of State Executive Officer. Here she gained a wealth of experience in HR, having responsibility for staff recruitment, selection, training and development, as well as furthering her programme development and project management skills.
As Executive Officer, Sally prepared, and trained staff to prepare various oral and written communiqués on behalf of senior staff and politicians; e.g., Ministerial letters and speeches, business reports, letters, planning documents, service level agreements and contracts, training tools, presentations, etc.
Since this role,Sally has managed a variety of projects such as co-facilitating a communications workshop with the Australian Olympic Canoe Squad in their preparations for the 2004 Athens Olympics. The workshop assisted the individual athletes to communicate clearly within the team and address any team issues. The workshop also dealt with conflict resolution, communicating with senior staff, non-athlete team members, and the media.
In 2005 Sally relocated to Abu Dhabi with her husband and was asked to undertake a one year pilot project for the Australian Trade Commission. In this role she was responsible for helping Australian companies to develop business in Abu Dhabi. In this post she managed, not only administrative tasks such as contract and report writing, but also dealt with clients and customers from various nationalities to assist in securing export deals.
Wanting to return to the training field, Sally joined Spearhead Training in 2007. She brings with her a great deal of experience in training, HR, personal development, management, and business writing.
