Eleanor is a UK National with over 15 years’ experience in Sales, Marketing, Project Management, Customer Service, and Leadership roles. She has a proven track record of success, having spent most of her career working for a leading FTSE 100, Global FMCG organization, with strong experience in the Global Travel Retail Sector, an industry renowned for its complexity, high quality standards, and diverse business environments.
Eleanor obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in 2005 from Brunel University, London, in Business Management (Marketing). While studying she also worked for a promotional agency, and on graduation, was promoted to be a team leader in the agency, managing a diverse sales team of 15 people. This gave her the opportunity to immediately match her university study with real-life practice.
Having been successful in this role, in 2007 Eleanor was recruited by a large multinational organization with a portfolio of some of the world’s leading Global Retail brands. Her first post was in field sales, dealing with UK airports. Due to her outstanding results, her responsibilities grew to include some of mainland Europe’s leading airports and global customers. Eleanor then moved into Trade Marketing, gaining key insights into Luxury Brand Selling, ‘The Customer Experience’, Brand Visibility, and overall knowledge of the Sales Process (Both B2B and B2C). In this role, she quickly established herself as a team player, with potential for further professional growth. In 2011 this led to promotion into a managerial position with a challenging team, spread across four countries (UK, Sweden, Portugal, and Switzerland), responsible for Trade Marketing Initiatives across Europe. With this additional responsibility and complex structure, she enhanced her management skills, to include Different Styles Of Leadership, Mentoring, and Coaching. The focus on these important areas led to an enhanced team performance.
In 2014, Eleanor was given further opportunity for increased responsibility when she was assigned to manage a very high-profile project. With an annual budget in excess of $1.5 Million (approx. 5.5 million Dirhams), she was tasked with developing and implementing, a tailored brand strategy plan that would deliver against a challenging commercial plan. Taking the project from basic concept, through to design, approval, and full operational set-up, she successfully delivered within the timeframe, despite a great deal of complexity, involving managing multiple internal and external stakeholders. One key factor in the project’s success was her ability to negotiate with key stakeholders from different regions, as well as developing a Learning and Development programme to create a world-class standard of ‘Brand Ambassadors’, focused on a ‘luxury sales and service mindset’. It was during this period that Eleanor first identified her passion for training others, and to be able to contribute to their career journey.
Following the completion of this project in 2015, Eleanor wanted to broaden her global experience outside of Europe. Working for a global organization gave her the opportunity to relocate to Dubai, taking on the role of Retail Development Manager for the Middle East and India.
In this position, she was responsible for managing a significant budget and focusing on creating plans for obtaining a solid ROI (Return On Investment). She worked cross-functionally with commercial and finance teams, to ensure the strategic plan was able to deliver against the key financial metrics. The strategy also focused on engaging and motivating the regional ‘Brand Ambassador’ workforce through regular trainings on retail standards, sales skills, and customer behaviour. This role gave her an overall insight into the region, and involved developing strategic retail plans for some of the world’s largest retailers, based on the brand’s global priorities, while also taking into account unique local considerations (what HSBC called: ‘think globally, act locally’). Eleanor’s experience in her global function allowed her to gain a deep understanding of ‘culture’, and the significant role it plays in business relationships.
Her flexible approach, and adaptability in the commercial environment, as both manager and trainer, allowed her to build rapport quickly and be able to fully engage with people. She passionately believes the maxim that “people buy from people”. Her leadership philosophy was to develop in her teams, the habits required to achieve ‘Win:Win’ outcomes. In her senior role in Dubai she encouraged her team to fully understand the customer needs, and to consistently deliver tailored solutions for the organization’s stakeholders. She always aimed to work closely with business heads, to fully understand the underlying issues they faced, and to always ‘go the extra mile’ to demonstrate her ‘customer-focused’ approach. In training and developing her team and colleagues, Eleanor developed a passion for the field of training.
Her ability to integrate training material into the needs of an organization’s specific requirements is what stands out to her clients. She links theory, with practical activities and ‘storytelling’, and clearly demonstrates how delegates can implement the learning from her training sessions back in their workplace. Her delivery style is dynamic, engaging, and highly interactive. She has transferred her proven ability to build key relationships with her corporate business partners, into her methodology for working as a Trainer. She believes in excellent communication skills, empathy, and active listening, as key attributes for anyone who wants to be successful in leading others.
Eleanor’s increasing desire to focus on training, and passion for people development, made her decide to change careers and to focus specifically in this area. She joined Spearhead Training as a Senior Management Associate in 2019.
