Matthew originally studied Tourism at Duchy College, UK, before beginning his career in the UK as a Resourcing Consultant, supporting clients in the fields of Oil & Gas, Aerospace, and Power Engineering. In 2007, he was approached by WS Atkins to handle all MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) recruitment for the Gulf region, based in their Dubai office. This move brought Matthew to the Gulf, where he handled recruitment for the whole Gulf region. His success in this role resulted in it being enlarged, with Matthew being given additional resourcing responsibility. Having achieved success in this role, in 2008 Matthew joined Hill International (a leading Construction Programme & Project Management organization), where he had responsibility for handling their infrastructure project recruitment across the Middle East. He worked closely with the Managing Director to redesign the recruitment process and make recruitment spending more cost effective. During the 2009 economic recession, he managed the redeployment of manpower around the Gulf, liaising with the regional offices to ensure as few redundancies as possible.
Matthew then moved to TDIC (Tourism Development & Investment Company) – a part of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (formerly Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority). He very much enjoyed operating in such a dynamic, multicultural environment. His key responsibilities were recruiting personnel for some of the most iconic projects in the UAE, such as Qasr Al Sarab, Sir Bani Yas Island, the Eastern Mangroves & Saadiyat Island, (including the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Guggenheim). In this role he focused on the implementation, management, and delivery of recruitment operations, processes, services, and policies, aimed at supporting the HR strategic vision for the organization.
After two years with TDIC, Matthew was approached to join Aggreko, Dubai, heading their global recruitment team. With Aggreko, Matthew earned his Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, and rolled out Six Sigma training programmes across the region. He was also involved with career mapping, job evaluation, and the creation of a training curriculum for new joiners.
Matthew’s achievements with Aggreko included creating a pre-qualification process for recruitment suppliers, including KPIs (key performance indicators) across the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) region. This led to a 75% reduction of suppliers from Aggreko’s Preferred Suppliers List. He also worked with the Training Department & SME’s, designing technical skills assessment tools, to create a more effective recruitment process when hiring employees requiring new skill sets. He negotiated Agency Agreements across the whole business, as well as establishing and maintaining relationships with external suppliers, through negotiating framework agreements and fees / pricing. This created an important collaborative partnership. It was during his time with Aggreko, that Matthew developed a passionate interest in training and development, specifically focused around behavioural change.
In 2015, Matthew returned to the UK, to take up a senior management position with a UK- based engineering recruitment consultancy. Realising his future lay in training and development, in 2017, Matthew trained as an ICF (International Coach Federation) Coach, while also taking a Post-Graduate Certificate in Business and Personal Coaching, with the University of Chester, UK.
In 2018, Matthew returned to the UAE to pursue a career in coaching & personal development. He qualified as a BPS (British Psychological Society) accredited assessor, and has since been supporting businesses, staff, and leaders through the design and delivery of specialised coaching and behavioural change workshops.
Passionate about helping individuals and teams to maximise their potential and personal development, Matthew has the ability to match his client’s differing requirements, by adapting his style to ensure a positive learning environment is created.
His training aims to provide an enjoyable, creative, upbeat, and challenging atmosphere in which he can deliver significant changes in thoughts and beliefs to his delegates.
Matthew joined Spearhead Training in 2019 as a Senior Management Associate.
